Much to our delight, Sophia has begun to sleep through the night. She goes to bed around 9PM and wakes up sometime between 6 and 7AM. However, last night around midnight I heard a terrifying cry on the monitor. It was like she was being hurt. I ran and scooped her up before I was even awake enough to think. She calmed down immediately, but my heart was going a mile a minute. We sat in the rocking chair long enough for me to calm down, but she seemed to go back to sleep immediately. I don't think she was awake. Sophia did protest for a minute or two when I put her down, but it was nothing like the blood-curdling cry from before.
Has anyone else experienced this with their toddler? It happened with Sophia one other time about a month ago and I'm curious if it is common.

Tom had one once. It was a bit different though. From what I remember (it was 3.5 years or so ago) He was really upset and we couldn't wake him up. It was like he didn't see us. He walked around the living room in the middle of the night and was screaming. I think it finally just ended and he went back to sleep. I'll have to see if I blogged about it. Cause I can't really recall the details except that I was freaked out because he wasn't acting like himself at all.
This still happens to Hannah from time to time. She just wakes up screaming or crying and you cannot reason with her in any way what so ever...not that you normally can. :) We have found the best thing to do is just to hold her and comfort her until it is over. We don't even try to talk to her b/c it gets worse or we just end up being awake longer. Our doctor says this is common for night terrors...good times!
