Likes & Dislikes

I've been meaning to occasionally document, mostly for myself, the things that Sophia really loves and hates. It seems to change all the time.

Sophia loves pasta lately. She loves Yo-Baby yogurt for breakfast along with Orowheat Double Fiber toast. She loves peas. She loves toddler animal crackers. She loves her Winnie-the-Pooh and polar bear stuffed toys. She loves to hug the cat. She loves to play with her big blue ball. She loves to play hide and seek around corners. She loves seeing dogs. She loves to take off her socks. She loves going to the park.

There seem to be an increase in things she hates, but maybe it's just that she hates things more adamantly now. Sophia passionately hates to have her hair rinsed in the bath. She hates zucchini, sweet potatoes, yams, and probably lots of other foods I forget that I've given up on for now. She hates the printer. She has begun to hate having headbands put in, but I'm not sure why because she'll usually let me put in ponytails without a fight. But the thing she hates most: Being told "no."

Calculator Call

Have you ever noticed how much a calculator looks like a cell phone? Neither had I until Sophia snatched mine while we were out shopping and appeared to try and talk to someone on it. It kept her entertained most of the way home from the pet store, until she couldn't open it. Which makes me wonder... why did someone decide that calculators needed to be difficult to open?

The Ghost

Yesterday Sophia did something odd, then she did it again today. She put a blanket on her head and tried walking around. What was funny was that she came up with this game on her own -- neither Franco or I demonstrated this one. Maybe it is the natural evolution of peekaboo? Anyway, it was totally cracking her up, which was cracking me up. Not very interesting since Sophia is nowhere to be seen, but here's a picture anyways:

Things Have Changed

Yesterday afternoon Sophia and I drove to a park in Martinez to meet up with some old college roommates of mine. Katie is visiting from Boston with her baby, Mae. Amy came with her baby, Ella, from San Mateo. Tara, Tom and Abby, who live five minutes from my house, drove in their own car because we can't fit three carseats in either of our vehicles. Two of our other roommates were MIA -- they were off being productive members of society (working). In the old pictures there were usually plastic party cups in our hands. If ever I am holding a plastic cup now, it is probably a sippy cup filled with water. :)

Bunny Ears

Grandparents, Lisa and Nadia all dropped by for a visit yesterday. The girls had fun playing with each other and posing for the paparazzi. Lisa brought the kids bunny ears, but the grown-ups liked them more. Here are a few pictures:

We even had a little time to play "Baby Photo Shoot" with Nadia. Does that dress look familiar?

Nadia is 9 months old. It was cool out, so she got to wear the cute little coat.

Sophia was 11 months old. It was a very hot day, so she didn't wear the cute little coat. She also hated the hat.

A Very Nice Day

This morning Franco had a doctor appointment, so Sophia and I decided to tag along. The doctor's office is near a very cute little park in downtown Sacramento with a pond, lots of ducks, and a beautiful rose garden (that is not currently in bloom). While Franco filled out paperwork and such, Sophia and I walked over to the park to take a few pictures. I was so busy trying to keep her from getting hurt or dirty, I decided that the best way to get photos was to enlist daddy when he was done. Between the two of us, I got a few pictures that I was really happy with. I wish my camera was faster, or I might have a few more!

After the park, we changed Sophia into regular clothes and headed to lunch at the Olive Garden. We were there for about an hour and Sophia was SO GOOD. She colored, played with a straw, ate pasta out of my soup, had part of a breadstick and several of the snacks that I brought for her. She had a terrible night last night, but it resulted in her waking up late this morning and us all having a very nice early lunch.

Just Eleven

Sophia did not have a good night last night. The miracle of sleeping through the night has passed. I checked her mouth and found tooth number eleven was still there, but the point of twelve had disappeared. Guess it's not ready yet.

Today the weather was beautiful again so we went to the park.

Baby Teeth

Tonight after I brushed Sophia's teeth she let me feel around in her mouth for about two seconds. Her bottom right molar has arrived -- that makes eleven teeth. On the top right side I think I felt a little poke of something, too, but she wouldn't allow me to investigate further. Maybe number twelve?

A Long Week...

On Monday I started getting a bit of the cold that Sophia and Franco had last week. Wonderful timing, with Franco being at work and all. Sophia was really good about hanging out in the play yard and watching PBS shows while I rested on the couch. With it being rainy, we didn't leave the house for days. Then yesterday I felt well enough to go get some supplies and today I felt almost normal (if I ignore all the tissue usage).

The reason I might feel so much better today might be because Sophia actually slept last night. After a week of multiple or long wake-ups during the night (like 2+ hours), she slept THROUGH THE NIGHT. I define "sleeping through the night" as she went to bed and didn't wake up until morning. Fluke? Probably. But I'll take it. We did get up at 5am, though. I don't mind the early wake-up if I actually get some decent sleep.

Today we went to the park and played for an hour. This afternoon we walked (with Sophia in the stroller) to Raley's to pick up some special goodies for dinner. We had baked Tillapia with a potato flake crust, zucchini, and fresh french bread (warm when we got it). Sophia didn't care for the fish, but she tried it three times and spit it out each time after chewing a bit. She ended up having some yogurt and apple sauce to round out her meal. Let's hope that is fuel for another good night.

Don't forget to set your clocks forward tomorrow night. :)

Tenth Tooth Discovered

Last night while getting ready for bed, Sophia finally allowed me to feel around in her mouth for a couple seconds. An upper molar has come in on the left side of her mouth -- this corresponds with the lower one that came in recently. Makes sense... she spends a lot of time chewing her fingers and toys on that side. Another one down, probably six more to go!
